Every town seems to have a collection of streets or pubs named after batles of the Crimean war – Inkerman, Balaclava, Alma, Sebastopol -but I hadn’t seen any in South Norwood till I noticed this well hidden AZOFF PLACE sign on a couple of houses in PORTLAND Road today-presumably named after the naval battle of AZOFF in 1855— or then again it could be IRVING AZOFF the ex-managr of GUNS AND ROSES………….probably not on reflection.
The sattelite TV dish sits strangely with the crimean war sign……one of south norwood’s finest juxtapositions methinks.
