In June 1881 the Crowley family – including young Aleister – moved to the The Grange at Redhill. The family brewery CROWLEY ALES was situated in High Street Croydon but had been sold just prior to the Redhill move. Crowley’s beloved Aunt Annie later moved to Outram Road in Addiscombe – adjacent now to the Sandilands tram stop. Crowley – working as a German agent in the USA in 1916 passed on his Aunt Annie’s address in the pro- german ‘FATHERLAND’ newspaper – in order that zeppelins might bomb it in an attempt to prove his loyalty. But by christmas 1919 was living with Aunt Annie in Outram Road – she being blissfully unaware of his attempt to have her house bombed. On our recent ‘derelict signs of south norwood country park’ walk we came across an old sign marked ‘ FOOTPATH 666’. After extensive research we can now reveal that this sign points directly to the Outram Road house.
