One of the most famous scenes in fiction was wriiten here in south norwood at 12 Tennison Road. That is where ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE penned the famous struggle between Holmes and Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls which ended in Holmes death. SNIB will soon be offering a Conan Doyle tour of South Norwood that will include:
12 Tennison Road ( outside only at present)
The cricket pavilion at Norwood Lake where Conan Doyle regularly played. The view from the 19th century verandah of sailing boats on the lake is very beautiful and unchanged since Doyle played there. Refreshments may be taken here.
St. Marks Church where Doyle’s son Kingsley was baptised.
We will also visit modern day commemorations of Doyle at Doyle Road, the mosaic under the railway bridge on Portland road and the excellent photos at the William Stanley pub.
