Last saturday PPR held the first of their soon to be regular members meeting. On a freezing day at 10am over 60 people turned up to St/Lukes Hall – a remarkable turn out.PPR reviewed their achievements over the past year and looked to the future. There are three new historic blue plaques in the offing to celebrate local people………..Ethel Fennings the suffragete, William Walker the intrepid diver who saved Winchester cathedral from collapsing, and William Yates Thurlsdon the composer. Briliant work PPR.Then we were told of the efforts to improve the look of derelict shops in the area – Chris Gordon the printers on Portland Road has given their window over to historic photos of the area – take a look. Lastly that the Stanley Hall Peoples Initiative had been the only bid to takeover the running of the Stanley halls that had cleared the first hurdle. Again excellent news for the hall being controlled by a local organisation at the heart of our community. There was much more but i had to leave half way through. Well done all at PPR – we salute your indefatigibility!
