‘A man who is tired of South Norwood is tired of life…….a man who is tired of the Lake District is normal”
You’re ‘avin’ a giraffe!
A man who is tired of the Lake District has probably only been to Windermere and thus has no say in the matter… If there is anyone on earth who genuinely believes South Norwood to be superior for tourism and natural beauty to the Lake District they genuinely need their head examined…
No. Just no.
I’ve just e-mailed Kim Jong-un South Norwood’s co-ordinates, I think he could do something to improve the place!
Next year’s Fell running to be held in Croydon then?
I live in the Lake District and have also been to South Norwood in my time. When you have to list Crystal Palace FC as a Local Attraction….things must be desperate.
The most shameless attempt at increasing tourism Ive seen in quite a while. No-one who has ever visited the lake district is ‘bored’ of it… I have 3 independant friends who visit there every year or two with their families. I simply cannot be doing with do-gooders with nothing better to do than debate a completely pointless issue.
What a petty way to draw attention to South Norwood – purely a simple and crude marketing ploy.
If they have to go down this route to get people in South Norwood then there truly must be nothing there to look at.
Honeymooned in the Lake District (the real Cumbrian Lake District), would you have found us honeymooning in South Norwood – good grief NO!
Well, the South Norwood Tourist Board have been wholly successful in publicising their area, well done for the sheer cheek.
Cumbria has two named lakes, Bassenthwaite Lake and Barrow Park Lake.
Lets show how big Norwood lake is…..I intend on breaking the water speed record on it.
Local author, Duke Bicks has told me he is writing an updated follow up to ‘Swallows and Amazons’, titled ‘Mallards and Mischiefs’, set around Norwood’s Lake District.
Well done for attracting the publicity. Made me chuckle.
I’m a Sutton girl-not that far from South Norwood- who has lived in the proper Lake District for nearly 30 years and drives by Bass Lake every time she goes to Keswick. I must say that I would never come back to live in the south-Norwood or even Cheam where I grew up. I’m sure your lake is absolutely gorgeous but when I sit up in bed drinking my tea bought in Cockermouth Sainsburys and look at Skiddaw; where I never go without meeting somebody I know and “have a crack” with, and where I can walk safely at any time of day or night, I know I live in the best Lake District in the world! .
I think it’s genius! An innovative and witty way of putting South Norwood on the map, along with the assets it clearly has for those open-minded enough to see them. Those who just don’t get the ironic, tongue-in-cheek nature of the claim, need to develop their sense of humour.
Did you really think we didn’t get it?
I’m not referring to anyone here Davies, but some people didn’t get it (judging by some vicious replies under the newspaper articles online). Others did, and played along nicely with the ping-pong.
