To all of you who have contacted us with information about South Norwood and its people over the last few days thank you – and we’ll be following it all up over the next few weeks. Our website hits went from 20 a day to 8,000 a day after the Lakes coverage so we’ve been pretty busy. We are interested in all the little bits and pieces and sons and daughters of South Norwood. We will soon be announcing the resumption of our popular walks after the winter rest plus exciting new revelations.
I expect you are already aware of this; the book “Retracing Canals to Croydon and Camberwell” p70 para 5, implies the reservoir (aka the lake) was man-made as a result of building dams to retain the water for the canal.
Have you considered visiting the local residential care homes to share your discoveries and glean memories from any residents who recall events of their youth? Their families may have photos of the area in past times. Also primary schools have local history as a topic: are there any nearby who could share resources?
