SNTB is considering a suggestion that the lake in the Country Park ( South Norwood Country Park lake) be renamed LAKE CONAN to avoid confusion with SOUTH NORWOOD LAKE. Even in South Norwood many people don’t know of the existence of the lake and some who make the journey to the country park even can’t find it or deny its existence. A simple ‘to the lake’ sign would be handy. However SNTB considers that re-naming the lake as LAKE CONA N after local writer CONAN DOYLE would kill two birds with one stone ( NOT THAT WE WANT YOU TO KILL A NY BIRDS WITH A STONE in the country park.)
It would attract Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts, of which there are millions, and could be part of a Conan Doyle tour. It may also attract fans of CONAN THE BARBARIAN as well as kids, twitchers and walkers.
LAKE CONAN – AINT THAT GRAND – WHAT’D YA SAY SOUTH NORWOOD.
