After correspondence with Alistair Duncan, author of Close to Holmes, it has been highlighted that whilst our intention may be pure, the name suggestions were either vague or focussed on his creations rather than the man himself.
Mr Duncan was responsible for The William Stanley having the wonderful selection of photos of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and also highlighted in his book that it is surprising that South Norwood hasn’t made more of a link to Conan Doyle and his most famous creation Sherlock Holmes.
It is for these reasons we have corrected the poll to include suggestions made by Mr Duncan, as well as others.
