Well, may I send a hearty thanks to all volunteers who contributed in making this forgotten part of South Norwood just that little bit less grim. I’d have been there myself to help of course but my back was playing me up that day…. and I was busy listening to Phil Collins records too.
I am indeed looking forward to meeting y’all at the opening though – and possibly a quick visit to the Jolly Sailor afterwards, eh?

Thanks Captain, We completely understand the draw of Phil Collins, he was our first choice! Whilst we are planning a good drink afterwards, The Ship, who have helped with watering the site, are kindly putting on a BBQ and a bit of entertainment.
What more could people want an unveiling of a memorial bench and a cup of tea in the pub afterwards – a perfect Saturday afternoon.
Ah yes, the Ship… I remember it well. When in the 6th form at Stanley Tech round the corner our presence in said boozer at dinner time was sometimes overlooked by teachers who happened also to be there if we bought them a pint. Disgraceful, eh?
